{Birthday Brunch}

Part 2 of Calvin's birthday celebration... this time celebrating with Eunice. We decided to bring her and Dennis off the city for a brunch amidst nature and horses. Riders Cafe ~ a nice little restaurant next to the stable. We first came to this part of the island when Calvin brought me to Mimolette for my birthday. We had wanted to try the brunch at Mimolette but it's been booked for a private function today. So we tried Riders Cafe instead. Not bad a choice at all.

We had a very nice lazy Sunday morning at Riders Cafe. It didn't feel like we were in Singapore at all. I wanna do this more often, shall we?

{The boys' birthday...}

We celebrated the boys' birthday together again this year. And they fed each other cake again, just like they did last year. :p

I remember how we used to squeeze our brain juices just to whip up some mammoth task of surprising one another in the most amazing ways during our birthdays. From driving the entire herd all the way up to KL to surprise Lee Choon, to cooking up with some lie about winning a one-night's stay in a JB hotel to surprise Teri, to turning everyone into little kids again in McDonald's children's party to surprise William, to collaborating with my mom to hide in various corners of our flat to surprise me when I reach home... and many many more heartwarming, tear-jerking, love-filled acts of surprises.

Now that we're older, we're contented just spending quality time with one another and reminiscing about the good old days. Birthday celebrations in the last couple years are about the simplicity of enjoying the wonderful company of wonderful friends.

{小B's Power Kick}

We were waiting for dinner to be served earlier tonight when 小B gave me a major kick! Calvin had his hand on my tummy and we were chatting away at the table. Suddenly, the mommy screamed and the daddy turned to her in shock. It really was a super power kick. Even Calvin could feel the power from the outside too! WOW!! It was the first time 小B kicked this hard.

{31 weeks}

Today we did some tests and detailed scan at Dr Ho's. 小B is already 1.8kg! That's a 600gm gain from 3 weeks ago... amazingly fast! According to Dr Ho, she's still at the 50 percentile mark.. so she's of average weight.

Lately, she's been rather active and her kicks are powerful man! Calvin's been able to feel her movements quite a bit now too.

1630 hours - that's usually the time she moves actively... cos that's the usually the time when my lunch has been fully digested and when I'm beginning to feel hungry. haha...

My tummy is growing at a much faster rate now. And the dresses (not maternity ones) that I've been wearing are becoming a little too short in the front. So that means I'm running out of clothes to wear again! 9 more weeks to go... should I be buying more clothes to fit my size now? Don't really wanna waste money leh...

{Tonic soup from God-daddy Allan}

I've been showered with super yummy tonic soup since some months ago... Allan (Renee's hubby, Tyler & Seth's daddy) is one of the best cooks amongst my friends. He makes the best oxtail stew and he makes the best tonic soup!

Some months back, Renee text me in the morning before I reached office to say that Allan made me some soup. He said that from the 5th month onwards, I should start taking tonic soup and he spent Sunday preparing just that for me and 小B. And I had the whole flask to myself to start the week! The taste of the chicken and herbs is simply marvelicious!!

Renee doesn't like soups and Allan didn't get a chance to prepare this for his own wife when she was pregnant. So now, he's doing it for his wife's good pal... :p

Today, I had another flask of tonic soup to enjoy... MEGA YUMMY!!! Thank you so much, Allan!

{Baby Nigel}

~ photo by Rick ~

Calvin's 2nd sis, Corinna gave birth to this sweet little boy last weekend. Nigel Lye arrived on 8 Nov 2008. He's soooo loveable, sweet, pretty and cute. We feel so much love for this little nephew of ours just by looking at his pretty face. Calvin said he was a bit teary when he saw how his dear sister cared for her little baby. Wonder how he'd react when he sees his own daughter for the first time??? hehe...

When we visited them in the hospital, Nigel was sleeping the whole time. Today, we got to see more of his actions.. mostly "smelly" actions... haha

{We got our car!}

About a month ago, Calvin got a call to inform him that he would be regaining the rightful ownership of his bike. And that means he is able to sell his bike now (*well, this is a long separate story on its own). So, we started shopping for a car some weeks back.

We had wanted to get a Honda Crossroad initially. But after doing our sums, we decided that we shouldn't be splurging on a liability. What we really need is a mode of transport - all we need is a weekend car that can bring Calvin to and from work, fetch 小B around, etc. As long as it's not bad looking, doesn't drown itself in petrol, has a spacious back seat for 小B's car seat and a big enough boot space for whatever needs to go in there, we're contented. One other criteria: no sedan cars. Both Calvin and I are so not into sedan cars, so we're only looking at hatchback options.

So we had Jasmine with us when we went around Ubi for some test-driving. We checked out different makes and ended our car shopping in the afternoon thinking hard to make a choice. 2 days later, we got another expert, Rick, to join us in another round of shopping. By then, our minds were quite set on Nissan Latio Sport. It's the only hatchback that is spacious enough for our liking. So we finally striked a deal with the salesman and today, we're collecting our new car - our very own black Latio Sport. Both Calvin and I are first time car owners, so we're really excited... just not that excited about the expenses that come along with it... :p

*Story of his bike...
Calvin bought this bike about 3.5 years ago from this bike shop. The financing schemes for bikes and cars are different. With cars, your car loan is a direct loan from the bank. But with bikes, the bike shop takes a lumpsum loan from the bank and your monthly payments go to the bike shop and it's the bike shop's responsibility to pay the bank. Calvin had finished paying his bike loan about a year ago. By paying off his loan, it means that Calvin is supposed to be the rightful owner of the bike.

About half a year ago, through some incidents, he and his colleagues (who bought bikes from the same bike shop) discovered that the bike shop did not pay the bank when they made their monthly payments. In fact, someone from the bike shop actually "ran away" with their money! Because of that, in the bank records, Calvin is still servicing the loan. And that means, Calvin is still not the rightful owner of bike on record, even though he has paid off the entire amount. Worst case scenario, if the bank decides to repossess the properties of the bike shop, Calvin's bike would be implicated!

Thank God he kept all his receipts. So after many rounds of calling and checking and sending in supporting documents to the bank, they finally granted him his rightful ownership of the bike. This whole episode lasted for almost half a year! Now that it's over, Calvin can't wait to sell off his bike.

{29 weeks}

Just a couple of days ago, I was thinking to myself, "Good job! I haven't fallen ill since I got pregnant!" And then, on Tuesday, my throat started feeling a bit of sore and my head grew a little heavy. Showing some signs of a flu bug attacking.

On Thursday, I woke up feeling really crappy. But I had to go to work because there are urgent deadlines to be met. My client's campaign is starting next Thursday and there tons of loose ends to be tied. There are 3 of us on this account, but 1 is on MC and the other one came back from compassionate leave. So, I had to be there to tie those loose ends. Halfway through the day, I really couldn't take it anymore. After briefing in on what needs to be done, I left for home. That was already almost 4pm. I went home, showered and crashed into bed. Slept through until Calvin came home with dinner and some TLC...

This morning, I went to see a GP and got myself a MC. He prescribed some fever, flu and cough medication and said, "these medication that I'm giving you should be safe for the baby." SHOULD BE SAFE???? He sounded so unsure and it got me worried... When I got home, I called up Dr Ho's clinic and the lady on the other end assured me that the medication is safe for pregnancy and Dr Ho would have prescribed the same medication to his preggie patients who has flu. That set my mind at ease. I took the flu medication and went to rest. Felt so much better after that!

{28 weeks}

小B's weighing about 1.2kg at 28 weeks. Dr Ho says she's at the 50 percentile mark and she's growing very well. Praise God! We saw her little round body and her strong limbs very clearly today.... it's soooo cute!!! Still can't quite believe that I have this amazing life growing inside of me. So much love fills me up... so much love for this little life. 小B, you can never imagine how much Daddy and Mommy love you... and how much more God loves you.

I'm into my 3rd trimester now. All's well except that I'm feeling tired more easily and I'm starting to feel some strain on my joints. Well, I've put on 10kg already! The joints had to work harder to carry this additional weight...

I'm also feeling this numbness on my fingers, mostly when I wake up in the middle of the night and in the morning. According to this book, this is probably the result of swelling tissues pressing on nerves. It could also mean that I have carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). CTS is common in people who regularly perform tasks that require repetitive motions of the hand (eg: typing!). It is also extremely common in preggies, even those who don't do repetitive hand motions. The book also suggests some remedies:
    - Raise your office chair so your wrists are straight and your hands are lower than your elbows as you type.
    - Switch to a wrist friendly ergonomic keyboard as well as a mouse that offers wrist support.
    - Wear a wrist brace while typing.
    - Take frequent breaks from the computer.
    - Use a speakerphone or headset if you're on the phone a lot.
    - In the evenings, soak your hands in cool water to reduce any swelling.
    - Ask your doc about other possible remedies, including vitamin B6 supplements, acupuncture, or pain relievers.
~excerpt from "What to expect when you're expecting"

Think I'm gonna give the soaking in cool water a try...

{Surprise surprise!}

Last night after dinner, Calvin said he wants to go NTUC for a while. That was like 8.30pm... and I'm like "why do you wanna go NTUC now? Go tomorrow lah..." After pestering him, he said he wants to go get me a surprise.... hmmmm... surprise?? from NTUC? What could he get me from NTUC????

I told Jasmine about it after he left for NTUC... and Jasmine commented, "aiyo..so ah chek...." hahahah....

So anyway, I was supposed to stay in the room when he comes back and not ask anything... He won't even tell me when I'll get to see my surprise. So as not to spoil the fun, I followed his instructions.

It's his off day today. When I woke up this morning, he wasn't in bed... Thought he went to the bathroom. I waited for him to come back into the room as I lazed in bed but he didn't appear back in the room... I walked out to look for him and found him in the kitchen preparing breakfast for me!!!!! OMG!!! I was sooooo touched!!! Look at my hearty breakfast prepared with love... What a beautiful way to start a work day! I feel I can accomplish anything today!

Thank you, baby! (^.^)
