{Traveling Light}

Finished reading "Small Acts of Grace" last week. Love the book... it's on loan now to my client. Hope the stories will touch her and show her how great Jesus is. Just started reading this book by Max Lucado: Traveling Light. This is one of the books that sat on my book shelf & collected dust for a long time. It was a gift from my friend, Theresa some 3 Christmases ago.

This book talks about the luggage of life. All of us, in some way or another, have picked up a few bags in the journey of our lives. Max Lucado, using a famous well-loved psalm in the Bible, showed us how we can release the burdens we never intended to bear.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil.
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever. [NKJV]

I'm now at Chapter 7... and I like how Max Lucado links each verse in Psalm 23 to a burden in life and how God has planned our paths for us and how we were never intended to bear these burdens.

Here's what I've read so far:

The Lord... | the burden of a lesser God
The Lord is my shepherd. | the burden of self-reliance
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. | the burden of discontent
He makes me to lie down in green pastures. | the burden of weariness
He leads me beside the still waters. | the burden of worry
He restores my soul | the burden of hopelessness

When God made us, He knew there are such burdens that we take upon ourselves. But as you focus on the Lord our shepherd, you realise that you can easily let these burdens down.

Well, I'm cracking my head to summarise what I've read, but I can't do it. There's no way I can simplify what Max Lucado did in the book - analysing each verse above and describing God's love for us. I suggest you give this book a read. It'll make you see things in a different light. Did I tell you my "library" is operational even without the shelves? So, if you'd like to borrow this book, let me know. (^_*)
